Dorton Steel Fabricators
Dorton Steel History
Dorton Steel Fabricators was originally founded under the name of Bayamon Metal
Work by Mr. Sergio L. Santiago in the commonwealth of Puerto Rico in 1967. For over
35 years, Bayamon Metal provided structural steel and custom metal fabrication
services to Metropolitan Builders, Rexach Construction, ConAgra Mills, Owens Illinois,
Ponce Cement, Puerto Rican Cement and Structural Steel Works, among many other
very reputable companies.

Sergio L. Santiago worked for many years for Williamsburg Steel in Brooklyn, New
York, and returned to the Island of Puerto Rico to start Bayamon Metal Work.  Like
many U.S. Fabricators, Bayamon Metal Work began in the steel trade as a job shop,
primarily fabricating miscellaneous steel products and erecting small structures.

In subsequent years, the company’s growth paralleled the increasing demand for steel
as a building material in the Island where the market was previously dominated by
reinforced concrete. By the early 1980, Bayamon Metal Work had established itself as
one of the most reputable steel contractors in Puerto Rico.

Dorton Steel  Fabricators consist of three divisions serving the construction and
industrial industries as well as the general public:
(A) Structural Steel Work
(B) Construction Related Custom Metal Fabrication
(C) Industrial Steel Fabrication, Services & Repairs
